Once a manufacturing facility for horse-drawn carriages, this vintage building in Denver’s historic district retains vestiges of a lost industry. Metal carriage racks snake across the ceiling; an enormous weathered barn door divides interior space, exposed brick and thick raw beams exemplify the historic value of the space. This is not your traditional office building – making it the perfect location for Time Warner Cable’s Web Services Group. To energize and appeal to their employees they decided to take a “non” traditional approach to choosing, designing and furnishing their office space.

Having out-grown their offices at Time Warner Cable’s Broomfield headquarters, the Web Services Group jumped at the opportunity to reinvent their workplace concept. A highly innovative division of a traditional cable company, they see themselves more as a high-tech “start-up” then a division of the second largest cable company in the U.S. The Web Services Group spends their days revolutionizing technology to deliver cable to the internet. They primarily work in teams, with multiple monitors, flip-charts and white boards; feeling most productive when they can communicate easily, openly and instantaneously. The “carriage” building has the look and feel often associated with high-tech start-ups - a vibrant urban location, contemporary aesthetic, limited fixed walls, and expansive open spaces.

Meeting the requirements of this highly collaborative, team–based organizational structure, they chose Marketplace by Teknion. In contrast to the 10x10 cubicle standards in the Broomfield office, Marketplace’s uninterrupted span allows plenty of room to support pair programming, as well as significant horizontal space for documents, monitors and electronics. For their casual meetings and touchdown space they chose dna^TM by Teknion. This modular lounge seating serves as a collaborative, flexible workspace that can be effortlessly re-arranged.
